The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has stopped the Ministry of Agriculture from selling public assets amid an ongoing corruption investigation.
ACB Acting Director General Gabriel Chembezi has confirmed signing the restriction order.
Issued under Section 23(1) of the Corrupt Practices Act, the notice blocks the sale, transfer or disposal of motor vehicles, office equipment and other public assets that the ministry advertised for disposal on August 8, 2026.
ACB investigators served the notice at the ministry’s Capital Hill offices and warned that anyone who defies the order by selling or purchasing the restricted assets could face criminal prosecution.
Anti-corruption and governance advocate Benedicto Kondowe says the freeze should be respected as an important accountability safeguard while investigations are underway.
The development comes as the ACB continues its investigations into suspected corruption surrounding the public assets.
