The Ministry of Health and Sanitation says Malawi has vaccinated 7,368,425 children under the age of 10 during the fourth round of the nOPV2 polio vaccination campaign.
The nationwide campaign was conducted from 11 to 14 August 2026, targeting 7,070,131 children across the country.
According to a press release signed by Secretary for Health and Sanitation, Dr. Dan Namarika, Malawi achieved 104 percent vaccination coverage, surpassing the national target.
The Ministry has described the achievement as a significant milestone in efforts to protect children against polio and interrupt the transmission of poliovirus in the country.
It has commended health workers and volunteers for their efforts in reaching children across the country, including those in hard-to-reach communities.
The Ministry also thanked traditional and religious leaders, parents, caregivers and development partners for supporting community mobilisation, promoting confidence in vaccination and ensuring children were available during the campaign.
It has urged parents, caregivers and communities to continue supporting routine immunisation and future vaccination campaigns, stressing that vaccination remains essential in protecting children against preventable diseases.
The Ministry says it will continue working with communities, health workers and development partners to strengthen polio prevention and control efforts nationwide.
