Malawi Congress Party (MCP) Secretary General Richard Chimwendo Banda has dismissed reports that he has resigned from his position, describing a resignation letter circulating on social media as fake.
Banda says he has never considered stepping down and will continue serving as the party’s Secretary General.
“A resignation letter is circulating. This is fake. I have never thought of resigning and I will never resign olo kamba atadukula,” he wrote on his Facebook page.
His comments come amid growing disagreements within the MCP, with some sections of the party calling for changes in its leadership.
The dispute has recently spilled into the courts, with some party members challenging Chimwendo Banda’s position and demanding his removal.
The leadership disagreements come as the MCP continues to deal with the aftermath of its defeat in the 2025 presidential election.
Chimwendo Banda’s latest statement has now put to rest speculation that he had resigned, although questions over the party’s leadership and internal divisions remain. The MCP has yet to issue an official statement on the resignation claims.
