DOWA POLICE ARREST 7 FOR ARSON, MALICIOUS DAMAGE

Police in Dowa have arrested seven suspects in connection with arson and malicious damage in the district. This occurred on Monday ,7th September at Kafalimani Village, Traditional Authority Msakambewa in Dowa District.

Dowa Police Station Sub Inspector Alice Sitima identified the suspects as Tiwuze Kalikiliki, Yudas Chimalizeni, Gift Laston, Phillip Jefani, Tiwuze Nefitali, Lenard Nefitali, and Richman Davide. They are aged between 23 and 38, all from Mdondwe 1 Village.

Sitima said that during the night of Sunday, 6th September, 2026, three goats were stolen from the kraal of Sandikonda Harrison of Mdondwe Village and the following morning, he was informed that Samuel Kalumbi, 35, was selling goat meat at the shebeen of Chisomo Dyson.

She added that later, Harrison mobilized some young men from the village who went to the houses of Dyson and Kalumbi and started beating them and burning their houses, the shebeen, two bicycles, one radio, solar panel and its battery, 5 bags of maize, all kitchen utensils and clothes. All valued at approximately K2.5 million.

“Dowa Police officers led by the officer in-charge Aubrey Kawale Deputy Commissioner of Police rushed to the scene and arrested the suspects who admitted to having committed the offense,” she explained.

Meanwhile, Samuel Kalumbi has been admitted at Mwangala Health Centre where he is receiving treatment after being heavily assaulted. The suspects will appear in court soon to answer their respective charges.

Investigations are still underway to arrest more suspects connected to the case. Police in the district are advising the public to avoid taking the law into their own hands as it is a crime punishable by law.
