Minister of Health and Sanitation Madalitso Baloyi has assured the nation that Malawi has established comprehensive screening and surveillance systems at Kamuzu International Airport to detect and prevent the importation of Ebola and other infectious diseases.
Baloyi said the measures are part of the government’s broader strategy to protect the country from potential public health emergencies and cross-border disease outbreaks.
He emphasized that safeguarding Malawians requires strict compliance with screening and monitoring procedures at all ports of entry into the country.
According to the minister, effective disease prevention depends on the collective efforts of all institutions involved in border health security.
Baloyi therefore called on relevant stakeholders to strengthen coordination and ensure that established health protocols are consistently implemented.
The minister made the remarks during the receipt of Ebola-specific response kits and equipment donated to Malawi to boost disease preparedness and response capacity.
The donation, valued at K127 million, was provided by the World Health Organisation and is expected to enhance the country’s ability to respond to disease outbreaks, including cholera and other public health threats.
Government says the support comes at a critical time as Malawi continues to strengthen its health systems and improve readiness against emerging and infectious diseases.
