Egypt has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing shared development goals with Malawi despite the economic challenges currently affecting many African countries.
Egyptian Ambassador to Malawi Rasha Hamdy made the remarks in Lilongwe on Thursday evening during celebrations marking Egypt’s National Day, commemorated annually on July 23 to honour the country’s 1952 Revolution.
Hamdy said Egypt remains dedicated to strengthening its long-standing partnership with Malawi through cooperation in key sectors that support sustainable development and economic growth.
She highlighted ongoing collaboration in modern agriculture, irrigation and water resources development, saying the initiatives are helping improve livelihoods and build resilience in Malawi.
“In addition to modern agriculture, irrigation and water development initiatives, Egypt provides support in capacity building, with a good number of Malawians benefiting from training programmes in Egypt,” said Hamdy.
Speaking at the event, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation George Chaponda reaffirmed Malawi’s commitment to maintaining a conducive investment climate to attract more Egyptian businesses into the country under mutually beneficial partnerships.
Chaponda said Malawi and Egypt continue to strengthen bilateral cooperation in peace and security while working together to promote continental integration and development across various sectors.
The National Day celebrations brought together government officials, members of the diplomatic corps and development partners to commemorate the enduring friendship and growing cooperation between Malawi and Egypt.
