MUTHARIKA CALLS FOR STRONGER GOVERNMENT- PRIVATE SECTOR COLLABORATION

President Peter Mutharika has called for continued collaboration between government and the private sector, saying the partnership is key to driving Malawi’s economic development.

Mutharika made the remarks when he met representatives of the Malawi Confederation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (MCCCI) at Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe.

He said government has maintained a close working relationship with the business community through the MCCCI and stressed the need for continued cooperation on key economic priorities.

Mutharika said the government and the private sector should work together in addressing challenges affecting the economy, including the impact of El Niño and promoting trade.

Speaking during the meeting, MCCCI President Ronald Ngwira thanked Mutharika for engaging the business community and pledged the private sector’s support in efforts to respond to the effects of El Niño and promote trade in the country.

Ngwira said continued engagement between government and the private sector was important in creating a conducive environment for businesses and supporting economic growth.
