ROADS AUTHORITY ANNOUNCES TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF M001 ROAD AT MPASADZI BRIDGE

The Roads Authority has announced a temporary closure of the M001 Road at Mpasadzi Bridge in Kasungu District on Sunday, 26 July 2026, to allow controlled rock blasting as part of the ongoing reconstruction of the bridge.

According to a statement signed by Chief Executive Officer for Roads Authority Joel Longwe says traffic will be stopped from 1:40 p.m., with the blasting scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. The closure is expected to last between 30 and 45 minutes, although the duration may vary depending on safety inspections and the clearance of the road after the blasting.

The Roads Authority has advised motorists travelling between Lilongwe and Mzuzu to plan their journeys accordingly to avoid inconvenience.

The authority says the road will be reopened immediately after engineers confirm that it is safe for public use. It has also apologized for the temporary disruption and appealed to the public for patience and cooperation during the exercise.
