Police at Namwera in Mangochi have arrested a 55-year-old man for allegedly defiling his five-year-old biological daughter.
The incident happened on August 25, 2026, while the child’s mother was away attending an initiation ceremony in the same village.
According to Mangochi Police PRO Amina Tepani Daudi, the mother returned home around 11:00 p.m. and found the child unwell. After checking, she noticed an unusual odour and saw semen around the victim’s genital area. When questioned, the child said her father had abused her. The mother confronted the husband and later reported the matter to Namwera Police Post.
The victim was taken to Namwera Health Centre where medical results confirmed she had been sexually molested.
Police immediately arrested the father, who hails from the area of Traditional Authority Jalasi in Mangochi.
The suspect will appear in court to answer a charge of having sexual intercourse with a female child, contrary to Section 138 of the Penal Code.
The law enforcers say once the investigations are complete and the case will be prosecuted in court.
