THYOLO — First Deputy Speaker of Parliament Victor Musowa says President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has made significant efforts to reduce unnecessary travel and address the country’s challenges within a short period since taking office.
Musowa made the remarks at Bvumbwe Research in Thyolo on Saturday during a Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) “Zikomo Adadi” gathering, where the party also launched a K10 million sports trophy for the Bvumbwe-Masenjere area.
He urged opposition politicians to stop interfering in what he described as the DPP’s internal affairs, saying the party was focused on serving Malawians.
“I want to warn our opponents to stop interfering in our internal affairs because it is not their concern. We in the DPP can resolve our differences ourselves.
When someone makes a mistake, we call them aside and resolve the matter. We will not allow ourselves to fight; instead, we will focus on serving Malawians,” Musowa said.
DPP Southern Region Governor Charles Mchacha said the Mutharika administration inherited an economy that was in a difficult position, alleging that those previously in charge had mismanaged public resources.
Mchacha called on Malawians to give Mutharika time to continue addressing economic challenges and implementing development programmes.
The event attracted large numbers of people from different parts of Thyolo, who gathered to hear messages from party leaders and support the sporting initiative.
The launch of the K10 million trophy also highlights the DPP’s efforts to engage young people through sport, while Musowa’s call for unity within the party signals an emphasis on internal cohesion.
However, the claims made by the party leaders about the state of the economy and the performance of the current administration remain political assertions and would require independent evidence to establish their accuracy.
