The Tobacco Commission will take its Know Your Grower (KYG) registration exercise to various tobacco-growing districts across Malawi from September 21 to October 3, 2026, in a move aimed at bringing the service closer to farmers.
Public Relations Officer for the Commission Telephorus Chigwenembe said the field registration exercise is intended to make the registration process more convenient for tobacco growers, who will no longer have to travel to the Commission’s offices to complete the process.
According to the Commission, the district-based exercise will also provide an opportunity for farmers to obtain licences to grow tobacco during the 2026/27 tobacco-growing season.
Chigwenembe added that KYG initiative is designed to strengthen the traceability of tobacco produced in Malawi.

The publicist said farmers in the targeted tobacco-growing areas are therefore expected to take advantage of the registration exercise when officials reach their respective districts.
The exercise is expected to reduce the inconvenience associated with travelling to the Commission’s offices.
The Tobacco Commission has encouraged farmers to participate in the exercise and use the opportunity to complete their KYG registration and, where applicable, obtain licences for the 2026/27 season.

The latest phase will extend the exercise into farming communities across the country’s tobacco-growing areas.
