Residents of Group Village Head Matuta and surrounding communities are set to benefit from improved transport and easier access to essential services following the reopening of the newly constructed Namawato Bridge.
The bridge replaces the previous structure, which was destroyed by floodwaters, cutting off a crucial transport route for people in the area.
Officially reopening the bridge, Member of Parliament Grace Kwelepeta described the project as a significant milestone in restoring connectivity for communities in Matuta, Mlambusi, Malika and neighbouring villages.
Kwelepeta said the new bridge will enhance access to schools, health facilities and local markets while providing farmers and traders with a safer and more reliable route for transporting agricultural produce and other goods.
She reaffirmed her commitment to advancing infrastructure development across Zomba-Malosa, stating that additional projects—including the rehabilitation of other damaged bridges and public infrastructure—will be undertaken to improve the lives of residents.
The legislator also expressed gratitude to the people of Group Village Head Matuta and surrounding communities for their patience, cooperation and continued support throughout the implementation of the project.
The reopening of the Namawato Bridge is expected to boost mobility, strengthen local economic activities and improve access to essential services for thousands of residents in the area.
