Malawian international forward Khuda Muyaba has stirred debate after saying he will no longer grant “free” interviews to media houses immediately after matches.
The Scottland FC striker, who currently plays in Zimbabwe, was reacting to post-match interview requests he says have become routine without any value to players.
In a statement shared on his Facebook page , Muyaba mentioned local outlets including Mibawa, Times and Zodiak by name.
“Nothing is for free.If you want me to speak after the game, then we should talk business first. I respect the media, but my time and my image also matter.”,Muyaba said
The 31-year-old, born in Mzuzu, has had a busy club career. He started with Moyale Barracks from 2013 to 2017, then moved to Silver Strikers in 2018 where he won the 2019 Super League Golden Boot with 21 goals.
After Malawi, Muyaba went abroad. He played for Polokwane City in South Africa from 2019 to 2023, scoring 24 goals in 62 league appearances. He later had short spells with Tishreen in Syria, Richards Bay, Ma’an in Jordan, and Venda FC before joining Scottland FC in 2025 on a two-year deal.
On the international stage, Muyaba has represented the Malawi national team, the Flames, since 2017. He has 29 caps and 5 goals for Malawi, and scored his first national team goal in a 2-2 draw against Zimbabwe in 2021. He was also part of the Flames squad at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
His comments about interviews have divided opinion.
Some fans say players deserve to be compensated for their time, while others argue media coverage helps build a player’s brand. Neither Mibawa, Times nor Zodiak had responded to the remarks at the time of publication.
Muyaba, known for his pace and eye for goal, remains one of Malawi’s most traveled footballers in recent years, with experience in the Malawi Super League, South Africa’s PSL and Glad Africa Championship, Syria and Jordan.
