St Luke’s Hospital in Malosa, Zomba, has become the first health facility in Malawi’s Eastern Region to introduce dialysis services after acquiring six dialysis machines in partnership with Dia-Tech of Blantyre.
The development is expected to bring relief to patients suffering from kidney-related conditions by reducing the need to travel long distances to access dialysis treatment.
St Luke’s Hospital Administrator Winas Boma said the new dialysis machines will help decongest existing dialysis centres in the country while bringing the specialised service closer to patients in the region.
Boma said the initiative is also aimed at complementing government’s efforts to improve access to quality and specialised healthcare services.
According to Boma, the availability of dialysis services at St Luke’s Hospital will benefit patients from Zomba and surrounding districts by reducing the distance and challenges they face when seeking treatment.
The hospital says the introduction of the six machines marks an important step in expanding access to kidney care services in the Eastern Region.
