The Lilongwe Senior Resident Magistrate’s Court has jailed a 36-year-old soldier, Diof Simaone, for 20 years after he had sexual intercourse with a 15-year-old girl and impregnated her in the process.
Simaone was sentenced on Monday, September 1, 2026 following his conviction last week Friday.
Central West Region police prosecutor Sub Inspector Thandizo Chingaru told the court that the convict, between April and August 2025, had sexually abused the child four times, making her pregnant.
At his trial, Simaone pleaded not guilty, prompting the state to parade four witnesses to prove its case beyond any doubt.
Prosecutor Chingaru argued for a harsh sentence since Simaone, being a military officer, was supposed to protect the girl, owing to her vulnerability.
In mitigation, Simaone pleaded for leniency and asked the court and the entire nation to forgive him.
Passing his sentence, Senior Resident Bracious Kondowe bought into the State’s plea and went on slapping Simaone with a 20-year imprisonment with hard labour.
Simaone comes from Nakoka Village Traditional Authority Mwambo in Zomba District.
