Police in Mangochi have arrested three suspects in connection with a break-in at a blanket shop within Mangochi Township worth K2.7 million and recovered all the stolen items.
Mangochi Police Station Public Relations Officer, Inspector Amina Tepani Daudi, told The Truth Malawi that the suspects, who returned from South Africa three months ago, have been identified as Kaisi Jalasi, 34, Watson Mtuwa, 40, and Muhammad James, 24.
Daudi added that the incident occurred during the night of Monday, 19th October, after the shop owner Shakira Mussah closed and locked the shop at around 5 p.m.
“However, on the morning of Tuesday, October 20th she was informed that the shop had been broken into. Upon checking, she discovered that 25 new blankets were missing and immediately reported the matter to Mangochi Police Station,” she explained.
Following intensive investigations, a team of detectives swiftly arrested the three suspects within the township. Subsequent searches at their houses led to the recovery of all the stolen blankets.
However, the suspects were also found in possession of various tools suspected to have been used for breaking into buildings, which were concealed in a small bag.
Meanwhile, they are expected to answer charges of breaking into a building and committing a felony therein once investigations are completed.
Jalasi hails from Kwisimba Village, Traditional Authority Katuli, while Mtuwa and James are both from M’baluku Village, Traditional Authority Chowe, in Mangochi District.
