Member of Parliament for Salima Central, Enock Phale, has called on the Government of Malawi to urgently rehabilitate the Kanyenyeva–Kaniche Road through Chitara and Sombe in the area of Senior Chief Khombedza, describing it as a key route for transportation and local development.

Phale made the appeal while speaking to journalists at Parliament in Lilongwe. He said the road plays a crucial role in connecting communities and supporting economic activities in the constituency.

According to the legislator, the road also provides access to the Chitara Research Station, an important agricultural facility that serves farmers and researchers in the district.

He said maintaining the road is essential for improving access to the station and surrounding communities.

He noted that the road is widely used by farmers to transport agricultural produce to markets. However, he said it has been left in poor condition after sustaining extensive damage from the heavy rains experienced last year.

Phale said the deteriorating state of the road has made travel difficult for residents, traders, and other road users. He urged the government to prioritise its rehabilitation to improve mobility and support economic growth in the area.

The Salima Central lawmaker also disclosed that he had brought young people from vocational skills training centres in his constituency to Parliament to observe how Members of Parliament carry out their responsibilities.

He explained that the visit was intended to expose the youths to the country’s legislative processes and encourage them to develop an interest in leadership, civic responsibility, and public service.

Phale further called on Malawians to uphold peace and unity, saying that although Members of Parliament often hold different opinions during parliamentary debates, they remain committed to working together for the common goal of improving the lives and welfare of all citizens.
