MASINTHA MP PUSHES FOR URGENT REHABILITATION OF KEY ROADS TO EASE TRAFFIC

Masintha Member of Parliament Juliana Kaduya has pledged to continue engaging the Ministry of Transport and Public Works to ensure the rehabilitation of three key roads in her constituency, saying the roads are critical for improving mobility, reducing traffic congestion, and enhancing access to healthcare services.

Speaking to journalists outside Parliament, Kaduya said she has already asked the Minister of Transport and Public Works to consider rehabilitating the road from Chisomo Private Secondary School through Simama Church, the road from Kawale PTC passing through the police station and Kawale II Cemetery up to Youth Drive, and the road leading to Chilinde Primary School, which also connects to Chilinde Community Hospital.

The legislator said the roads are heavily used by residents and their importance will continue to increase, especially with the expected rise in the number of patients accessing services at Chilinde Community Hospital.

Kaduya explained that improving the condition of the roads would make it easier for people to access essential services, including healthcare, while also supporting economic activities in the growing communities.

However, she said she was not satisfied with the response from the Minister, who indicated that the roads fall under the responsibility of the Lilongwe City Council. Kaduya argued that the roads are major routes serving many people and deserve urgent attention from relevant authorities.

The Masintha lawmaker said she would first follow up with the Lilongwe City Council as advised, but warned that she would return to the Minister or raise the matter again in Parliament if no action is taken.

Kaduya stressed that the rehabilitation of the roads would help reduce traffic congestion, minimize road accidents, and improve transportation within rapidly expanding areas of her constituency.

She added that better road infrastructure is essential for supporting urban growth and ensuring that residents have reliable access to important public services and opportunities.
