Police in Dowa have arrested 10 villagers aged between 20 and 47 for unlawful wounding and malicious damage at Chikadza Village, T/A Chiwere, Dowa District, on September 11, 2026.
Dowa Police Station Public Relations Officer Sub Inspector Alice Sitima said tensions arose after Nyadilani Chigalu, 58, married a second wife from Lichapa Village, a decision that angered his children from his first marriage.
Sitima added that on the day in question, his children, together with other villagers, confronted him at his new wife’s house and forced him to return home.
“During the confrontation, two relatives of the new wife sustained injuries. In retaliation, villagers from Lichapa mobilized and attacked Chikadza Village, damaging two houses and property, including windows, door frames, and iron sheets valued at K780,000,” she explained.
The matter was later reported to Dowa Police Station, where officers swiftly followed up and arrested the suspects.
They will appear in court soon to answer their charges.
Meanwhile, investigations are ongoing to arrest more suspects involved in the incident.
