State Vice President Dr. Jane Mayemu Ansah says her relationship with President Arthur Peter Mutharika remains cordial despite what she describes as deliberate efforts by some individuals to sideline her and undermine her role in government.
Speaking to local radio station, Ansah said she was aware of individuals allegedly working to frustrate her discharge of official duties but maintained that their actions would not distract her from serving Malawians.
Ansah was, however, emphatic that her challenges were not a result of a strained relationship with President Mutharika.
“My relationship with President Mutharika is well,” Ansah said.
She said the alleged attempts to undermine her effectiveness were instead coming from individuals within the political and government establishment.
According to the Vice President, she knows some of the people involved in what she described as efforts to limit her ability to perform her constitutional responsibilities.
Ansah said she would remain focused on her duties and would not allow internal political manoeuvring to interfere with her commitment to serving the country.
Her remarks come amid growing public debate over the visibility and role of the Vice President in the Mutharika administration, with questions emerging over whether she is being given adequate space to fully discharge her responsibilities.
Ansah became Vice President after serving as the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP)’s running mate to Mutharika in the 2025 presidential election.
A former Justice of Appeal, she entered active politics ahead of the election and subsequently became one of the prominent figures in the governing party.
Her latest comments are also expected to fuel discussion over internal dynamics within the DPP, particularly as the party looks ahead to its future leadership and succession politics.
Despite the reported challenges, Ansah has continued to affirm her loyalty to the DPP and President Mutharika, maintaining that she remains committed to the party and its government.
Her latest remarks therefore draw a clear distinction between her cordial relationship with President Mutharika and what she says are attempts by unnamed individuals to undermine her position and effectiveness in government.
