The Wildlife and Environmental Society of Malawi (WESM) has donated a collection of environmental books to the Wildlife Club at Mponda Primary School in Zomba, a move aimed at strengthening environmental education among learners.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, WESM District Environmental Clubs Coordinator San Daniel Nkunga said the books will provide learners with valuable knowledge on wildlife conservation and environmental management.
Nkunga emphasized that environmental literature plays a crucial role in shaping young people’s understanding of conservation issues, enabling them to become responsible custodians of the environment.
He encouraged members of the Wildlife Club to make good use of the books by reading them regularly and using the knowledge gained to promote environmental protection within their school and communities.
Nkunga further challenged the learners to develop a culture of writing stories and articles on wildlife and environmental conservation, saying such initiatives would help raise awareness and inspire others to protect natural resources.
Mponda Primary School Wildlife Club Matron Jacinta Chideya welcomed the donation, describing it as a timely contribution that will enhance learners’ understanding of environmental and wildlife conservation.
Chideya expressed confidence that the books will serve as an important learning resource, helping club members acquire practical knowledge that can be applied in preserving the environment both at school and beyond.
Speaking on behalf of the learners, the club’s Vice Secretary, Tabiru Mpunga, a Standard Seven pupil, thanked WESM for the donation and said the books would motivate members to actively participate in environmental conservation activities.
Mpunga appealed to WESM to continue supporting the Wildlife Club with educational materials, saying access to more environmental books would further strengthen conservation efforts and inspire more learners to safeguard Malawi’s natural environment.
